Junior Enviro group.

We had our first meeting today for the year 0  - 2  people interested in being part of the enviro group.

A Huge thankyou to Tim Hewitt ( Jack and Theo's ) dad for offering your time to come in a help us learn. 

We will be having junior enviro group every second Wednesday at lunchtime. Please check on the news centre on Wedneday to check when to meet.

Very exciting news for the holidays!!

Today was the day that we finally got our chickens!!! They have been rescued from a  battery farm by the kind people at Huha . Mrs Brattle drove up to collect our five girls in the morning and delivered them to their new home at Plateau School.

The chickens are pretty pale and very bald. Unfortunately this is to be expected as they have lived in small cages with only artificial lights for their entire life. Carolyn from Huha said that they will be all feathery and healthy in about six weeks.

The girls seem very happy with their new home at Plateau School and we are sure happy to have them. Here are some pictures of Mrs Brattle putting the girls in their new chicken coop.

 Mrs Brattle wanted to make sure the girls were going to be warm and happy overnight so she went down to School to check on them. Two of the particularly bald girls were not in the warm part of the coop so Mrs Brattle lifted them in to where the nesting boxes are. To her surprise she found an egg!!!!! The girls must be very happy with their new home if one of them have already layed an egg ( Mrs Brattle certainly was VERY happy to find the egg).

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped/donated or raised money for our chickens. We are so lucky to be able to have them at School and I am sure they will help us to learn responsibility, empathy, and help us to learn more about being a sustainable community.

As you will have noticed Plateau School has a chicken coop, but we do not have any chickens yet. We have decided that we would like to offer a kind and safe home to some battery hens that have been rescued by Huha.

Mrs Brattle has contacted Sam from Huha, Sam thinks it is a great idea that Plateau School have some of their chickens but she had a few questions she would like answered. The enviro group had a meeting today 12/2/15 and we are going to answer these questions and send an email back to Sam to answer her and show that we will be a responsible, safe and kind home for the chickens. Please feel free to ask any of the enviro members how we are getting along, and keep an eye out for when the chickens arrive.

Enviro groups morning tea fundraiser was a huge success!! Thanks again to all of you who supported our efforts by helping your children create their dishes. Click here to view our video and see just how much fun we had.

Save the kiwi Morning tea!!!!!

Wow.. What an amazing effort.. A huge thank you to everyone that contributed food and drink.. And to everyone that came along and made some yummy purchases... All that effort has led to a very successful fundraiser.. We raised $250.. Which is an incredible effort and will be donated to the save the kiwi organisation.

Today we met to make sure we were ready for our food and drink stall tomorrow.. We are really looking forward to making some yummy treats and selling them to the school to raise money for save the kiwi.

Today was so much fun at enviro time.... First we had a talk about how we were going to raise some money for save the kiwi organisation. We decided that we were going to make some yummy food and drinks to sell to the rest of the school at morning tea next week. then we went to hall and some of us helped mrs Brattle and mr Sheehan make some yummy pikelets with jam and cream... They were so yum!!!!! some of us got fired from our jobs of spreading the jam and cream on because we sneezed though!!!! Luckily the people that replaced them made it safe for everyone!!!
